Wild Oats Uvularia sessilifolia Family Liliaceae
Brief Description: Stands 4-12 inches tall. Has three or four pale green leaves with reflexed edges. The solitary, cream colored, nodding flowers have a spice fragrance. Blooms from April to June. Geographic Range: From southern Canada to Missouri, Georgia. Habitat: Moist woods Garden Use: A fairly inconspicuous flower that is a pleasant reward for the wildflower enthusiast. Historic Uses: According to Cutler, in 1975 the young shoots were eaten as asparagus. The nutritious roots are now used in diet drinks. |
